Fab 36, located near Fab 30, both in Dresden, Germany is slated to produce 65nm and 45nm chips.

It was origionally intended for 90nm, but now production will be focused on churning out AM2 CPUs

AFAIK AMD still plans to use SOI

Better hope they reengineer the AM2 before they push it out because everything I've read now says it's a peice of trash- at best an attempt to catch up to Intel compatability numbers. Windsor is supposed to have its arse handed to it by Conroe.

too little too late. It would have been nice having Fab 36 open 2 years ago.

the ball is in AMD's court now.

I thought they saw Intel drop the ball and let it roll down the hill and now they're watching it pass them by too so that Intel gets to run down the skreet and pick it up? I'm tellin ya~ wait for Conroe on your new system.

look for xtreme systems forum

some guys over there got ahold of an engineering sample
hooked that bad boy up to a 945 chipset (i dont rly keep up w/ em)
needless to say... the thing flew.

im looking forwards to see what AMD can do w/ 65 or 45nm process. They've been able to stretch 90nm father than intel was willing to, and they have made some very formidable CPUs in the process.

They are expecting 40% faster transistor switch rates upon switching processes.

Intel has been talking about conroe for the last year or so, but they simply called it the desktop port of this laptop junk that just came out. We'll see though...

The most significant change in switching processes is lowering costs~ they claim the faster switching but because it lets them use a larger wafer, the speed increase is virtually invisible. At best, it should bring industry prices down a little bit more.

smaller process=smaller die (or more room for cache)=higher yeild=lower cost, or at least that's how it's supposed to go.

AMD is being a sly fox and bumping up prices, probable hoping some dumbasses would buy a 939 before AM2 comes out. I'm thouroughly dissapointed
