Burn in, thats hardly necessary when building systems. The last computer I bought pre-built was an IBM PS2 close to 13 years ago. I've built everyone of my systems since then, which is around 9 or 10 full systems each going through numerous upgrades over the span of their lives to. System manufactures do burn in tests to make sure they don't ship lemons, thats it. And even then some get by them.

Building your own is not for everyone though. Having good access to resources is really whats needed. I work for a MS gold partner, so I have full MSDN libraries of just about all their software. Access to lots of parts to for testing, extra machines for net access, etc. So when I do run into any problems there not so bad. If I didn't have all above, they would be real headaches.
