I have to say this is the first game since AoE3 that has been liek omfg~ we're talking about a potential prize for lyfe here...

    Real Time Strategy
The speed of this one is on the level of Rise of Nations
    World War II Theme
Awesome units and insane effects to go with it.
    Two Modes of Play: Timer/Domination
This is potentially the most innovative thing in the game alongside other features....the big deal with RTS is the games take too long. The timer is essentially a capture the flag mode imo that lets you fully get into the game without playing for hours at a time. VERY fast paced and crazy. Domination can take hours, bouncing back and forth.
    Simplified Buildings
There are only a handfull of builings to worry with- but the upgrades to go with them is another story.
    Caters to Defenders
You can train engineers that do nothing but pack sandbags all day or put up barbed wire. No resources other than the units time to build them. Very nice automated way of placing the defenses too.
    Heavy Micro
It's definately a game of unit control. While your units will take cover or what not when engaged, you still need to control them. Like the sniper unit, he's got mad hax if you micro him massively. Some tanks that way too. Special resource just for using unit specials even.
    Amazing Graphics
As events take place, they effect the terrian for the remainder of the game. When someone sets you up the bomb, that crater stays there for many hours right beside the dead tank. Makes the battlefield look crazy af ter an hours time.

Also, the graphics itself are wicked. No lag at all on my machine but most everyone else I've talked to can't even run it so maybe a problem there with older machines but its sexy to watch that flame thrower own it up.
    Cameras
You can go into any angle, any time, any where instantly without any thought at all. The first time you could really go watch in the middle of the flying shells and still be effective. Or go third person directly over or at a nice angle. Very very nice engine.
    Stolen Ideas from Other Games
Like AoE3, you get experience for killing units and can specialize in the field turning your battle group into a tank divison, air borne, etc. A lot of other things not mentioned as well like unit percision based on distance and what have you.

The first RTS I couldn't whip an easy computer from the start- I'm not even touching the two "difficult" levels. Will actually go buy this one even~ most of you know thats a rare one for me too so that says enough.

Total Sporks: 10 of 10
Kikko tested. Kikko approved.

These screenshots don't do the engine justice. I'll have to take some of my own system rendering the game when I get the time.

The kicker is Relic didn't even do cd protection because they said customers don't want to have to put a cd in everytime they play, patch, etc. It only uses cd key protection for online games. It's like the holy grail of computer games I swear...

One of my perferred single item order vendors Chief Value has the game for $39.99 because of a $5 instant rebate on a price of $45. Currently, the price is bugged but already contacted them and they are going to update it. It's only been out for a few weeks. I haven't heard one bad thing on the game so far anywhere, except for hardware requirements for slackers. It's winning awards everywhere on it's second week~ even got Gamespot's Editors Choice award already.

This game my rival my all time best game title given to Age of Empires...

seems alright. I'm very interested cause OFP's RTS maps were hella fun, especially when they spanned the huge islands that are ingame (100km square among the 4)

ok so explain the gameplay. Are you actually present on the battlefield, able to kill/be killed, or are you some omnicient god that has a 3rd person view of everything, like AOE/EE

Traditional RTS~ third person. Depending on the mode, you die by getting wiped out/headquarters blown or you run out of tickets.

You don't pyshically control any unit's aiming ability as far as I know, which doesn't mean its not possible, but you deploy tactics down to a common level. If a tank is coming, they won't go put sticky bombs on it unless you tell them too because it takes away from your total ammutions. Same goes for having an engineer defuse a mine or build a wire fence. You take the actual role of "commander" in a base camp xx miles away.

Unit control reminds me alot of Command & Conqurer style. How you move them and use them greatly effects their overall power, ie MICRO.

Buy for $39.99

Follow-Up: Teamplay is implemented amazingly. You share resource locations and terrortory but not the resources themselves. Buildings which are passsive upgrades also become team assets while anything you can control on your own remains yours. Some of the map designs are totally awesome too, creating either a single front of hundreds on any given map.

Unlike many other RTS, it's not all about resource whoring and land domination. I'd say its safe to say that the game is at least 25% player unit control along 50% strategy. Remaining being actual forces and what not. When you flank someone, you really flank them. Not any omg I can't beat the zerg...

Quote:
Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts is the next chapter in the critically acclaimed Company of Heroes series.

Players take command of the German Panzer Elite as they struggle against the might of Operation Market Garden, or lead the British 2nd Army in the vicious battle for Caen, France.

The standalone title features two unique armies with full length campaigns, new multiplayer modes, Microsoft DirectX 10 support, mission persistence, improved vehicle and soldier AI, enhanced physics, and a dynamic weather system.

i r have to upgrade teh video card now?

Quote:
Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts is fully compatible with Company of Heroes, allowing players to wage war with four unique armies.

teh coolest ever, imo. Standalone/Expansion Combo

They did a good job integration teh new game with the old one, being that it isn't a dependant expansion. People with both can still play with persons only having Opposing Fronts...they just can't play the original armies.
