I just found out Shadowbane had closed last month~ I'm quite sad about this business as it was alot of inspiration for my emulator which has drawn so much attention as of late. :(

so i hear that there is a movement from pc gamers to get this game un-gayed, taking away the bullshit "oh well we dont want dedicated servers, because it enhances the play of the game." very, very stupid i think personally.

one of the biggest reasons infinity ward claimed to go this route was to reduce the number of hackers and cheatzorz, but what i hear from the grapevine is that the game has already been hacked to hell and back, regardless of dedicated servers.

That never had anything to do with not cheating~ it was always about cost of development. A dedicated server function seems easy but it is far from it. They have to write an entire binary that handles all that interaction and an entire new multiplayer client to use different functions all for one platform, which is also the lowest money maker in the long run.

They tried this bold move pushed by people in suits that don't even play the games or understand the community and it backfired, DRM style. They're still making mad dollars on the console releases but nothing like they could have done this holdiay season. There isn't a single shooter competitor and they totally screwed the pooch.

The multiplayer is absoutely horrible too I hear. Only one map that does 9v9 and most games are 4v4 or less. Single player is only worth 6 hours of game play so $60? I think not. I'm hooked on League of Legends right now and it's completely free to play (micro transactions) so I don't care anyway.

so this trend seems to be picking up, as new games are coming out on PC are no longer going to support dedicated servers. i honestly wish there were something that could be done to reverse this bullshit trend.

I've been playing the single player campaign and I must say, the game is extremely impressive if you disregard multiplayer. The maps could have made the most epic multiplayer FPS ever too if they hadn't trashed their own system...
