An MIT startup called Tilera Corp is now fabbing a 64 core processor that sells for $450ish in bulk @ 10,000 units. The market has already determined it has performance and energy efficency so all that remains is how easy it is for developers to utilize for efficency. Bling bling

lol im guessing thats $450/unit at 10000 units

idk about the design tho, 4 build in DDR2 memory controllers, that works out to 16 cores/controller, 8 cores per channel, which, well, doesn't seem too efficient if this thing has as much power as it's hyped to have.

plus it's a system on chip design, with most of the PCIe controller/PHY/GbE circuitry on chip.

Her best frequency is 600-800 so it's for very specific applications but the fact they pushed out a design, qc'ed it, and managed to get someone to fab the chips at a decent return rate promises a future of some sort. Private investors will keep the company from wasting all their energy on shareholders too...
