being technically illiterate as i am, i am looking for some advice. i am looking for an external hard drive, about 100-200 gigs of space, nothing too fancy, just something to hold and backup some files. any advice?

That's what I have, works perfectly. It's not meant to be portable, but does a good job of backing up data. :)

500GB Seagate FreeAgent USB External - Prices at $100-120
It's a no brainier if you're gonna buy an external drive.

I bought a 400GB Seagate External about a year ago to backup at a similar price. Most useful to have such around...you could always drive up and use it, but then you'd have to factor in buying another motorist a new bumper and it wouldn't save you any money at that point.
