Seagate made an announcement that they are developing a new technology they have named "HAMR" (heat-assisted magnetic recording). With their big release of perp recording to significantly increase platter density, if they can pull off this new technology, they will have done it again...HAMR may allow density increases up to 100x, which means areal densities of 50 terabits per square inch. Owned.
